The gut is the body’s “second brain”. It’s responsible for breaking down and absorbing nutrients from the foods we eat to send out to various cells in order to keep the body firing on all cylinders. When the integrity of the gut and GI tract is compromised, it becomes susceptible to diseases and inflammation which can wreak havoc on not only weight loss efforts, but overall health!

The human body is home to trillions of bacteria strains. Most of these bacteria live inside your gut and are instrumental to maintaining good digestion and gut health. However, an imbalance of “good” bacteria can lead to gut permeability and the introduction of toxins and harmful potential diseases into the body. By supplementing with probiotics, the integrity of the intestinal wall is preserved and protected against these foreign invaders.

Lactobacillus rhamnosus (Probiferrin®)  is one of the most common and widely used strains of probiotics. It is also one of the more studied in terms of heath and weight loss benefits. It belongs to the Lactobacillus family of bacteria. Lactobacillus bacteria produce lactic acid which helps in killing off toxins and harmful bacteria in the gut. It also supports the growth of other beneficial bacteria such as bifidobacteria.

Lactobacillus rhamnosus is beneficial for helping to break down foods, absorbing nutrients and warding off any toxins that threaten the integrity of the gut. In this way, the body is protected from inflammation that will not only impede weight loss efforts, but open the door for a myriad of potential diseases and unfavorable GI related symptoms.

Inflammation is the number one cause of disease as well as weight gain. When the gut is stressed out, hormonal responses signal a “fight or flight’ response which leads to fluid retention, fat storage and inability to lose weight.

Probiotics and a healthy gut flora are essential to maintaining that balance.
