Routine preventative care for gut health can reduce the risk of developing GI issues that are hard to treat.

Candida is a type of yeast that lives in and on the body. Candida is considered normal and harmless at low levels, however, if there is an overgrowth (commonly in the GI tract) it can cause an infection called candidiasis. An overgrowth can cause several symptoms including diarrhea, constipation, pain, fatigue, gas, bloating, and inflammation. Factors that increase the risk of developing an overgrowth of candida include: antibiotic use, high alcohol intake, stress, a weak immune system, and a high sugar diet. Candida overgrowth is inhibited by betaine hydrochloride, a digestive enzyme that prevents candida from establishing itself in the small intestine. GI Assist includes 200mg of betaine hydrochloride to help protect the GI tract from possible overgrowth of candida. This can be especially important for those who have a history of candidiasis.

L-Glutamine is one of the most common amino acids utilized in the gut. The intestine uses roughly 30% of total glutamine among the different tissues in the body that depend on the amino acid. L-glutamine helps control inflammatory responses, supports intestinal barrier function, and helps maintain a balanced microbiome. Immune cell activity is also supported by L-glutamine in the gut to help prevent infection. L-glutamine stores can be depleted due to metabolic stress/trauma, GI disorders, infection, and excessive exercise. GI Assist includes 3500mg of L-glutamine to help heal and protect the gut as well as reducing the chance of a glutamine deficiency.

Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) is a common chronic digestive disorder in which stomach acids back up into the esophagus. Aloe Vera has been shown to reduce the frequency of symptoms associated with GERD, such as heartburn, food regurgitation, dysphagia, flatulence, belching, nausea, and acid regurgitation. Aloe vera includes anthraquinones, which have a laxative effect on the body by raising the water level in the intestines and helping the intestinal muscle contract and relax. As a result, aloe vera is frequently suggested for constipation relief. GI Assist includes 50mg of aloe  vera powder to help protect and support the GI tract.

GI Assist supplementation along with a well rounded diet full of fiber can make a large impact on the health and function of your digestive system. Regularity helps rid the body of toxins, and prevents bloating and fatigue. An unhealthy digestive system can impact mood, hormones, immune function, and may cause flare ups with auto-immune disorders. It is crucial to keep the digestive system working optimally for overall health.
