We recently released our newest product, Opti-thyroid+ and with it, questions have arisen around the difference between this and Protea Nutrition’s Baseline+. To answer this question, it’s important to understand what each product is designed to do in the body.
Baseline+ was designed to support healthy female hormones. Hormones are chemicals that carry messages through your blood to various parts of your body telling them what to do and when to do it. These hormones control various mechanisms in the body including metabolism, maintaining homeostasis, reproduction, growth and development, sexual function, mood, and more. A hormonal imbalance happens when you have too much or too little of one or more hormones. (1) Baseline+ was specifically formulated to help balance female sex hormones like estrogen and progesterone.*
As we age, the likelihood of experiencing issues with hormones increases as our endocrine system will produce more or less of some hormones. In addition to age, other factors that may impact hormones include, diet, body weight, activity level, sleep, environmental toxins, physical and psychological stress, and any health condition that directly impacts the endocrine system.*
Some of the most common symptoms of hormonal imbalance are irregular periods, infertility, acne, mood swings, low libido, weight gain or inability to lose weight. (2)*
Baseline+ incorporates a blend of herbs that support female sex hormones – in particular, maca extract which helps combat the effects of environmental estrogens that run rampant in many everyday items and substances. Maca promotes a healthy balance between all female hormones by stimulating the hypothalamus and pituitary glands telling the body which hormones to produce.*

In comparison, while Baseline+ helps balance female sex hormones, specifically estrogen and progesterone, Opti-thyroid is designed to help those struggling with an under-active thyroid.*
The thyroid is a butterfly shaped gland of the endocrine system that produces and releases hormones in the bloodstream. Iodine from the food you consume is used by the thyroid gland to create two key hormones: T3 and T4. TSH Releasing Hormone (TSH-RH), which is produced by the hypothalamus, alerts the pituitary to instruct the thyroid gland to generate varying levels of T3 and T4 by either increasing or lowering the production of these hormones. T3 has a role in your metabolic rate and bone health, and it especially helps brain, heart, and digestive function. T4 contributes to body temperature, metabolism, and mood.*
An under-active thyroid, known as hypothyroidism, affects 5 out of 100 Americans ages 12 years and older, although most cases are mild or have few obvious symptoms (3). Some cases will require medication, while others may be treated with diet, lifestyle, and supplemental changes. Symptoms of an under-active thyroid may include, depression, constipation, weight gain, fatigue, and dry skin. If you suspect your thyroid may need help, the best way to know for sure is to get a blood test and consult your doctor.
